What you need to know about parking at Saddleback college!
Your
first few weeks on campus will be exciting, but they also can be confusing.
Listed below are some of the most frequently asked questions by new students
regarding the parking rules on campus. If your specific questions aren't
addressed, call (949) 582-4585 or stop by Campus Police and Parking
Services on the lower campus in parking lot 2. We're here to help you understand the rules that you
will have to follow if you choose to bring a motorized vehicle to campus.
Q:
WHAT ARE THE HOURS THAT PERMITS ARE REQUIRED?
A: Permits are required Monday through Sunday at all times. Long-term semester
parking permits can be purchased during registration or at the Campus
Police Station for $30.00. Day parking permits can be purchased for $2.00
at any one of the four yellow
permit dispenser machines located at the Medical Center Drive campus
entrance next to the flag pole; at the north end of parking lot 10, at
LOT 5A (Near Tennis Courts); and at parking lot 1. Timed metered parking is available throughout the campus at a
rate of $0.50 per hour.
Q:
IS MY SEMESTER OR DAY PARKING PERMIT VALID IN PARKING METER SPACES?
A:
NO. No campus parking permit (except handicap placards) is valid in metered
spaces. Meters are enforced during the same hours/days of the week/year
that parking permits are required. Students are welcome to use the metered
spaces, but meter rates must be paid.
Q:
I'VE HEARD ABOUT A "GRACE PERIOD" DURING THE FIRST TWO WEEKS OF EACH SEMESTER
WHEN I DON'T HAVE TO HAVE A PERMIT ON MY CAR. IS THIS TRUE?
A:
NO. There is not a grace period. Parking permits are required on campus 24/7.
Q:
WHAT IF I USE A DIFFERENT CAR OR FORGET TO BRING MY PARKING PERMIT?
A:
It is common for students and staff to temporarily change vehicles and
forget their parking permit as a result. If this happens to you simply
stop by the Campus Police Station in parking lot 2 and we will issue a
temporary parking permit at no cost to you.
Q:
WHAT IF I LOSE MY PARKING PERMIT, OR WHAT IF IT IS STOLEN....WILL I GET A FREE REPLACEMENT PERMIT?
A: NO. Parking permits are personal property, just like books, calculators,
and jewelry. To replace a lost permit you will have to purchase another
one. As for stolen permits, if you are the victim of a theft you should
report the circumstances to Campus Police. Depending on the circumstances
of the crime a stolen permit may be replaced to you free of charge.
Q:
I RIDE A MOTORCYCLE. DO I HAVE TO BUY A PARKING PERMIT?
A:
YES, if you plan to park it on campus. Motorcycles are restricted to parking
within designated spaces set aside for motorcycles.

Q:
O.K.! SO I GOT A PARKING CITATION....NOW WHAT DO I DO?
A:
Please understand that absolutely no one enjoys getting a parking citation.
But getting angry about it and being rude to people will not make it go
away. If you get a parking citation you have three options. You MUST do
one of these three within 21 days of receiving the citation.
- Pay
the citation by mail using the envelope provided with the citation.
- Pay
the citation at the Campus Police station in person.
- Contest
the citation if you believe it was issued in error. You can do this
by filing an appeal at the Campus Police station. The appeal
process is in accordance with California law, so you will be required
to submit a "Parking Citation Review Request." These forms are available
at the reception desk at the Campus Police station.
Q: WHAT
HAPPENS TO A CITATION THAT ISN'T PAID?
A:
If a citation is not paid or appealed within 21 days from the date it
was issued a " Notice of Intent" to place a hold on the vehicle registration
is mailed to the registered owner of the vehicle. Failure to respond
to this "Notice of Intent" results in a hold being placed on the vehicle
registration through the Department of Motor Vehicles. Saddleback
College increases the citation amount by $23.00, and the DMV adds their
own fee to the penalty. If you have five or more unpaid citations at any
time your vehicle(s) are subject to immobilization and/or impoundment
until you pay the citations and all penalty and impound fees in full.
Q:
I HAVE OTHER PARKING QUESTIONS I NEED ANSWERED. WHEN IS THE CAMPUS POLICE AND PARKING OFFICE OPEN?
